The Semi Formal Groom

While the classic black-tie will always remain a traditional staple for men on their wedding day, a more noticeable trend is quickly becoming the more desirable look for the modern groom and his groomsmen. Most commonly classified as ‘semi-formal’, today’s grooms are opting for this more relaxed look when choosing their attire for their big day. With so many weddings designed to fit a more rustic, bohemian theme, the groom is following suit in his attire as well. No longer leaving the decision solely in the hands of their brides-to-be, more and more grooms are actively participating in the decision process when dressing both him and his groomsmen. Staying true to the comfort of the semi-formal trend, many grooms are forgoing the tradition of wearing the formal tuxedo jacket and instead wearing a button down shirt with a pair of slacks, a vest, and a cool pair of chucks to compliment this more causal style. The open-jacket look is another one of the more common choices being seen on the groom and his groomsmen. This edgier take on the semi-formal trend is typically accessorized with a pair of suspenders, a pair of bright, colorful socks, or a simple skinny tie or bowtie around the neck. Regardless of how they may blend this less conventional style into his attire, the semi-formal trend is a great way for the groom to incorporate his own personal style into the wedding! After all, it is his special day too!
For more insight on this growing theme, I spoke with Patricia South's Bridal's very own Tuxedo Specialist, Oshane. As manager of the tuxedo department, Oshane has been a major contribution here with us for the past 7 years. He is the go-to-guy for every wedding, prom, or special occasion when looking to rent or purchase any type of formal menswear. So when I asked him how he felt about the Semi formal wedding trend for grooms and their wedding party he said," It's an awesome way to individualize your wedding and a great way to convey your personality through clothing. The semi formal look uses brighter colors and a variety of textures that the standard black tie requirement doesn't usually advocate. Making your wedding yours." Most of the more recent wedding parties are using this trend and it is one of the coolest things coming your way.
